It's a bit different. I'm experimenting with a new style. I want to add a little color to my life of art, so I've been doodling. Here's a new one I came up with after seeing this awesome stock.

I'll be coming out with three more gothic faeries in this somewhat art nouveau series.

...In Death

*If your interested in buying the framed original please contact me by email for pricing.

I also did a piece earlier last week that I forgot to post. just a simple little 5x5 for further experimentation. Wow, yes, 18 months. That's a heck of a long time. And guess, what...I'm still not finished. I'm about 6,000 words from the end of the novel and I'm at a stand-still. That last scene is stuck in my head, but I really want to get it just right. And in the mean time I'm also beginnging a huge rewrite, changing the ms from third to first person present. I posted the newly edited first chapter for you guys to check out. It still may need a little tweaking, but I think I've finally captured Laney's voice--which really seemed to be illuding me. Yay!

So, now perhaps I can finish this ms. I hope to pitch it in tandum with my other ms, Golden, at the SCBWI con in August, since I've come to discover that they actually are companion pieces--I'd really love to know how this stuff happens without us writer's knowing. It's a little scary to see how much control our characters get of the worlds we "live" in outside of reality.

Here's the newly written first chapter: The Willow Door

Decadence

Okay, so I stayed up waaaay too late finishing the next in my Golden series. There's some interesting and thought-provoking stuff out there this time. I'd like to point you to some of it.

Cris Hopper has got the awesome speculation, "what if" going on at his blog. Go check it out and think about the question he asks. It's an interesting discussion.

Becky talks about setting and lets us in on how the books all fit together with the re-release and all (which I was confused about so that was nice to know).

Kait has a really good review of the book.

John gave us an awesome breakdown of that anti-theo-milleniumlology-ly thing

And Gene does his unique thing again, showing us all up with his hilarious (author approved) cartoon. A must see--especially if you're having a bad day.

You can also check out Cris Walley's blog and get a more personal side.

Now, I'd like to address a question of my own that I've been thinking of. So, these earthlings went to other planets and did the Firefly, terraform thing. But something keeps sin out, away from the people. Rebecca pointed out about kids on Cris' blog. I'm with her on that. Kid's are not born innocent--terraformed world or not. But, for the sake of argument, the question is:

Where does sin reside?

Some will immediately say the heart--the soul--tainted by being born. Interestingly enough, Christ was born of woman and had no sin--but he struggled with it non-the-less. Something to ponder. Also, sin or evil could reside in the "earth"--as Walley's premise implies. So, is Walley right--is the earth evil--or are we? Is it genetic or is it woven into us as we're made of earth? Satan was thrown down to our little planet like lightning from heaven. But did him landing here make it inherantly evil? Is that when it began to spread? Why would God ruin his creation that way? Now, I'm babbling, but they're such interesting things to speculate on. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Now go check out the rest...

Brandon Barr Jim Black~ Justin Boyer~ Grace Bridges~ Jackie Castle~ Carol Bruce Collett ~ Valerie Comer~ CSFF Blog Tour~ Gene Curtis~ D. The premise is a classic, strong and haunting.

What we don't see...

In Auralia’s Colors it's...well, color. No one knows the magic of color in this world except one girl who was found, as a child, in a large footprint by a band of thieves. These thieves raise her and soon she's enthralling them with her gift to create magic...or in our lingo, color.

Jeffrey Overstreet has hit something great for CSF. I'm so thrilled that Waterbrook took a chance on this one.

When I first heard of this book my mind immediately went to The Giver (my most favorite book EVER). The idea of one child who can see what no one else can. I'm not sure that Overstreet meant for this parallel, but it's intriguing to me. I'm looking forward to reading the novel to see how deep the theme goes. I'd be interested to hear any thoughts from those who've perhaps read both novels.

Here's an awesome quote:

PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY SAID: "Film critic and author Overstreet (Through a Screen Darkly) offers a powerful myth for his first foray into fiction. The kingdom of Abascar is cloaked in gloom, sentenced to an ongoing “wintering” by a jealous queen, in which colors have been done away with and are only allowed in the royal court. But young Auralia, found as a baby by the river and raised by outcasts, has a talent for finding colors everywhere and bringing them to life in a way no one has ever seen before. The fate of the kingdom rests on what Auralia chooses to do and how the king responds. Overstreet creates a world with not only its own geography but its own vocabulary — it is haunted by beastmen, home to cloudgrasper trees, vawns (something like dinosaurs) and twister fish. ... Overstreet’s writing is precise and beautiful, and the story is masterfully told. Readers will be hungry for the next installment."

Kudos to Jeffrey!

Here's more from the CSF Blog tour...

Brandon Barr~ Jim Black~ Justin Boyer~ Grace Bridges~ Jackie Castle~ Carol Bruce Collett ~ Valerie Comer~ CSFF Blog Tour~ D.
