Willow Door Update

So, I've been working on my ms The Willow Door for about 18 months now. Wow, yes, 18 months. That's a heck of a long time. And guess, what...I'm still not finished. I'm about 6,000 words from the end of the novel and I'm at a stand-still. That last scene is stuck in my head, but I really want to get it just right. And in the mean time I'm also beginnging a huge rewrite, changing the ms from third to first person present. I posted the newly edited first chapter for you guys to check out. It still may need a little tweaking, but I think I've finally captured Laney's voice--which really seemed to be illuding me. Yay!

stolen500.jpgSo, now perhaps I can finish this ms. I hope to pitch it in tandum with my other ms, Golden, at the SCBWI con in August, since I've come to discover that they actually are companion pieces--I'd really love to know how this stuff happens without us writer's knowing. It's a little scary to see how much control our characters get of the worlds we "live" in outside of reality.

Here's the newly written first chapter: The Willow Door

Wow. I really like this opening. I have to say, I'd be tempted to drop the first sentence of the note fragment, and start with the second.

Also, I don't think (just guessing here) that Laney would make any distinction of her powers by using the word supernatural. They aren't supernatural to her, and I don't think she'd refer to them as such, even when describing someone who doesn't have those powers.

Four locks on the window, easily bypassed. I'd like to know just a little bit more about how she makes it so effortless.

Don't know if that makes sense, but, what an excellent, intriguing and defined introduction to a new world.
